incarnadine
I like to consider comics from a fine arts/literature perspective, and from a new media perspective (or digital/electronic media, or interactive multimedia, or hypermedia, or whatever you prefer to call it).
I read Disney, Harvey, and Marvel comics when I was little (I wanted to be Spiderman!), but now my interest is mainly in alternative, small press, and/or independent comics. I have a modest, mainly alternative, comics collection, and I'm amusing myself by slowly cataloguing it on comicbookdb.com. I also collect certain issues of Hot Stuff the Little Devil, and I help Greg Hyland find comics for his Gorilla-Cover Comics collection. I'm influenced by cultural theory and concerned with social justice issues (sexism, racism, classism, heterosexism, ableism, etc...). Some Webcomics favorites: - Patches - Dinosaur Comics - Lethargic Lad (Greg, who is my spouse, also did my user graphic!) Experiments with Interactive New Media Comics: In 2006, I taught a 4rth year undergraduate fine arts course at York University (in Toronto, Canada) where I integrated significant comics-related content (and required the students to read some Scott McCloud). When I have a little more time I will link to some of the comics-related new media works created by my students. |
