jasonaaron
I'm the writer of the Vietnam War mini-series THE OTHER SIDE and the ongoing Native American crime series SCALPED, both from Vertigo. My upcoming work includes a four-issue stint on WOLVERINE and ongoing duties on GHOST RIDER, both for Marvel Comics. I was named one of Wizard Magazine's "Writers On the Rise" in 2007. In 2002, as a winner of the Marvel Comics Talent Search, I made my writing debut in the pages of WOLVERINE. "Vertigo, DC's mature readers imprint, has produced a number of hit writers... In that grand tradition, Jason Aaron is the next guy to keep your eye on."--Wizard Magazine "The most exciting new writer in comics."--Brian K. Vaughan (Y: THE LAST MAN, TV's "Lost") My BlogMy Message BoardScalped.infoPraise for SCALPED: "Aaron's talent for dialogue is complemented spectacularly by R.M. Guéra's vivid pencil work."--Playboy Magazine "SCALPED is some of the most compelling character work and crime writing I've seen in a long time."--Ed Brubaker (CAPTAIN AMERICA, CRIMINAL) "The best new series in years. Spread the word. Tell your friends. Talk about it. Blog about it."--Garth Ennis (PUNISHER, PREACHER) "Aaron's narrative is dirtier than an Iron Eyes Cody vista, and promisingly matched with Guera's prairie-dusty art."--Entertainment Weekly "Overwhelming is the right word to use for this book. It's a must buy."--Silver Bullet Comics "One of the richest, most rewarding reads around."--WizardUniverse.com "More and more of a must read each month."--Ain't It Cool News "If SCALPED doesn't leave shivers down your back, read it again."--Reznet News Praise for THE OTHER SIDE: "This book isn't trying to be important, it just is. One of the very best comics Vertigo has published since PREACHER. Highest possible recommendation."--Brian K. Vaughan "I've said it before but I'll say it again: This (THE OTHER SIDE) is a fucking outstanding book... This gets my Highest Personal Recommendation."--Brian Wood (DMZ, DEMO) "Not since Eric Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front has a novel--graphic or otherwise--been as powerful, stirring, unsettling, and thought-provoking... THE OTHER SIDE is nothing short of a true classic."--Library Journal "A stunner of a comic. In fact, few war stories in any medium blend such horror with such a poetic humanization of the enemy."--Playboy.com "Buy it!"--G4's Attack of the Show "Because the characters and their manias brought on by the war's atrocities are so compelling, the only bad part about THE OTHER SIDE is that it has to end."--Washington Post

Forgive me if this comes across as brown-nosing, but I must say that your comics make visible the stories of the marginalized underclasses of the globalized world. The Other Side and Scalped, in particular, offer a genuine diversity of represenatation, amidst the four-color spandex. By "genuine diversity", I mean a warts-and-all presentation of the over-looked stories that get drowned out by the watered-down multiculturalism of contemporary myth-making. And better yet, you do so without recourse to cheesy, feel-good "We Are The World"-ism, or romanticized images of "noble savages". But that's *not* the reason why you're quickly becoming one of my favorite writers -- I like your stuff because it's exciting, white-knuckled storytelling, with real human characters at its core. And ultimately, that's what I hope for, every time I pick up a new issue. |

Jason, Page 2 splash of Scalped is wonderful. Reminds me of the great Batman/ Monk cover from Detective Comics #31 by Bob Kane way back in 1939. Classic!

Jason, I really dug the first issue of "Scalped." I've been recommending it to any customers who have ever bought a Vertigo book. There's so much dramatic possibility in the American Indian Movement of the 70s that still resonates today. Good luck! Jordan Asylum Comics & Videos Marietta, OH |

Yeah, I'm stoked about the signing thingie. I hope ya'll dig my small but cozy comic shoppe. I just pronounced the last "e" in that word.
Heh.
Anyway...there is an art show opening for a local cartoonist and sculptor at the Olive Gallery that evening if you guys want to go and check it out. It's Andrew Hadle...a guy from our area who is very talented.
Also, we gots cool places to eat and all sorts of other stuff to do. In fact, my employee Joe is your designated guide to awesomeness for the evening if ya'll stick around! We like to make our guests feel at home and, well, party if they'd like to. |

The only thing missing in that interview on Scryptic was a healthy dose of profanity! Oh well, can't have everything, right? |
