Hi! I'm Mal Smith, a writer and artist from Bristol, UK and the driving force behind The Fallen Angel Media (a small yet growing consortium of artists and writers trying to break into the world of small press). I draw and self publish comic books, stories and strips and most can be seen from our website here and in our new twice yearly anthology 'Left of Centre' (issues 1 & 2 now on sale at our new Web Store! #3 unleashed in Oct '08 at the Birmingham int. comic show).

It's going to be a truely awesome show this year and we can't wait! ------------------------------------------------------------------- 05th April '08 The first show of the year (the UK Web & mini comix thing) went wonderfully, the new books are out and we're hearing very good things back from people about them, we've got 6 or 7 projects on the go for the next one and I'm off to New York in June for Mocca. Frankly, things are going great and i'm just really looking forward to what the future brings :) ------------------------------------------------------------------- 11th January '08 Well, it's the start of another fun packed year for FAM and that means it's time to gear up for the next convention season! we've got a whole stack of things to get ready/printed/organised and i'm juggling 3 strips at a time now but quite amazingly, i'm staying on top of it all for once! I'm on a major artistic high at the moment and i think i must be getting quicker again because i'm finishing a page in 2 days now as opposed to the previous 5. I'm gearing for putting out 2 anthologies of stuff in March and then a new one out every six months after that (which with my current workload shouldn't be a problem) and we've a whole load of merchandise and goodies to finish making/printing so the next couple of months are going to be really exciting times! I love all this small press malarkey, it's an absolute hoot! The satisfaction of making your own books and seeing the final product all printed and bound is a great one. Going to con's, chatting to people about their and my work and learning new tips and tricks is such fun i get all tingly with excitement thinking about it ;) We've got 3 new series starting for #3 of the anthology (tentatively titled 'Left of Centre') - The manga strip HM High charting Jess mason's younger years, another offshoot of High Maintenance called Fallen Angel (which is the expansion of a very old script of mine which i wrote well before i started all this comic drawing fanaticism) and an HM unrelated 'underground' style strip called Tactical Goth Chick. Loads more going on as well but i'll give a full round up at the end of Jan. busy, busy, busy..... ------------------------------------------------------------------- 23rd December '07 With a very welcome week off work coming up over the holidays, i'll be getting things ready for next years con's, drawing a whole lot of new designs, mini strips, concepts and maybe even getting some writing done. So much going on at the moment i barely have time to talk about it but we should be launching two new books at the London show in March and another one in May at the Bristol show. A couple of new external illustration projects on the horizon for early next year too but they're yet to be confirmed... Also (as a major plug), check out Modern Monstrosity's 'Tales from the Flat' #7 early next season as I have a 6 page backup strip in there and also (if they decide to do it) a rather spiffy 'limited edition' cover to my credit :) ------------------------------------------------------------------- 23/12 *grrr!!
